Our PAVA student volunteers step in where it matters most- giving exhausted caregivers a day of rest while bringing joy, connection, and dignity to patients living with memory loss. This is not passive volunteering. Our students roll up their sleeves and show up fully ready-singing karaoke together, reviving sights and sounds of Korean cultural traditions through arts and crafts, leading gentle physical exercise, and playing classic games awaken long-held memories. They sit side-by-side with patients, preparing healthy meals together, sharing laughter, and engaging in meaningful conversation that stimulates the mind and warms the heart. Our students gain rare, first-hand clinical and human experience working directly with memory-impaired patients- learning to communicate beyond language, reading body language, building patience, and developing a deep empathythat no classroom can teach. For many, it is also a living opportunity to practice and strengthen their Korean, conversing naturally with elders in their native tongue and honoring a culture they carry within them. At KADC, PAVA students don't just volunteer. They show up as family!Â
