Osteoporosis

Hi guys! Since the case we saw on osteoporosis/osteonecrosis was so interesting, I decided to look further into the subject. According to this article, Osteoporosis in the jaw can occur due to delayed bone healing in consequence of some medications. As a result of this delayed healing, jaw infection, pain, and even bone rotting and prone to occur. To reduce risk of osteoporosis, the article says to maintain healthy oral hygiene and follow a well-balanced diet. It’s a very short read so definitely check it out!

Thanks for sharing this! I found it especially interesting that medications used to treat osteoporosis can sometimes contribute to serious complications in the jaw, which really highlights how interconnected medicine and dentistry are. It also emphasizes the importance of communication between physicians, dentists, and patients before procedures like tooth extractions. As our population ages, I think prevention through good oral hygiene, proper nutrition, and regular dental checkups will become even more important in reducing these risks.
